Otto Kalvø, was born in Alesund, on the west coast of Norway, in the year 1960. As most people in that part of Norway, he has been traveling / exploring the world, looking for opportunities since he was born. The best he found was Nathalie from Belgium, which he has 3 wonderful kids and a good university in the US, named University of Alabama, where he got his B.A. and MBA. The main reason for ending up in Alabama was due to the fact that they had a good soccer-team and that there were no Norwegians. School has never been important to him, so he thinks he was the most social student ever. The study gave him some basic background to really trust the “stomach-feeling” and a great network of friends and business associates. One on of them is his professor, Mark Weaver, now teaching entrepreneurship in Baton Rouge.
He has always been an entrepreneur, and started several companies. Most of them small, but they all had the same vision/strategy, meaning that it had to be profitable and fun, to start and run. This vision, which really works, was learned from the great founder of Reitangruppen, Odd Reitan, which was his first employer.
Since the beginning of the 90’s, he has been working in the telecom industry. The first years was with Telenor, and was a time of great fun. In 1997, his partners Jan Gunnar, Lars Erik and he, bought the “company” he was heading in Telenor. and founded Dangaard Telecom Norway.
This MBO was supported by his great friends in Denmark, the Fleggaard family, and particularly Steen Pedersen.
Dangaard became within 6 years the largest mobile phone distributor in Europe. Dangaard merged with Brightpoint Telecom in 2007 and became the world largest mobile phone distributor.
He is proud to still be a shareholder, and still working with what he enjoys; business development, or in other words; look for opportunities which can be both profit and fun. Norway is a fantastic place to be, with respect to this. The only thing that is a problem is that they are so few consumers. But their ideas can easily be brought globally through their network.
Now he is working in the director board of hSenid Software International. |
